Kate Middleton Approves This Fall Outfit

Posted by on September 25, 2012 in Famous People Fashion | 0 comments

In case you haven’t heard, Kate Middleton is in the news for not wearing clothes. Her privacy was rudely invaded when an evil French photographer took topless pictures of her and tried to sell them to the British tabloids. Note to photographers: probably not a good idea to sell topless Duchess photos to a country that adores its female royalty.

I feel bad for Kate Middleton that she can’t even enjoy a tan with a prince who is her husband on the terrace of a chateau in south of Fr… OK maybe I don’t feel that bad for her. But still, invasion of privacy is not cool. To celebrate the royal couple’s win in French court, which ruled that the photos can no longer be published in France, this post is a throwback to a time when news was about Kate Middleton being (fashionably) clothed.

If you’ll remember, during her pre-topless scandal days, whenever Kate Middleton debuted an outfit everyone wanted it instantly and it was sold out within like five minutes. I’m not sure if that was because she’s genuinely fashionable or if people just want to look like a princess-to-be, even if the prince is the nearly balding Wills, but whatever she wore became the next must-have.

Dresses and nude wedges are the new athletic wear!

Now that summer has left us and we are forced to experience cold again, I set out to find a fall outfit that has Kate Middleton’s royal stamp of approval.

My Top 5 Favorite New York Fashion Week 2012 Moments

Posted by on September 17, 2012 in NYFW Spring 2013 | 0 comments

This year’s fall New York Fashion Week has come to a close and has proven to be quite eventful. Headlines are made, not surprisingly, when you bring together crazy designers, starving supermodels, and celebrities with hot-off-the-tabloids scandals. So, while designers are surely boozing themselves up after the stress of NYFW, models are going back to eating again (300-calorie per day diets, of course), and celebs are continuing with their scandalous lives, I’m making a list of my top 5 favorite moments of NYFW 2012, in no particular order. Let’s go, fashion!

1. Liberty Ross Liberates Herself at Alex Wang Show

I’m imagining this is how it all went down. Everyone at the Alexander Wang show was busy looking apathetic, as fashion people tend to do, when they are completely caught off guard by the sight of the recently homewrecked Liberty Ross strutting down the runway. They must’ve thought to themselves, I’m used to seeing this woman on the cover of Us Weekly, not on the catwalk. Incidentally, she’s a model – this is her job.

As for Alex Wang, he’s definitely telling the world that he’s on Team Liberty with this surprise casting. What I find ironic is that Kstew, who has separation anxiety with her combat boots, better embodies the signature Alex Wang girl than Liberty does.

On top of all this, during the after party, images of Kstew and Rpatz purportedly flashed upon the screen while the DJ blasted a song with angry lyrics. Nothing like a little passive-aggressiveness to deal with a cheating scandal. You go, Liberty! After hearing about these events, Kstew probably made her “whatevs” face, i.e. the only face she knows how to make.

Jason Wu S/S 2012 & The Last Minute Mini-Vacay Outfit

Posted by on August 27, 2012 in Spring / Summer 2012 | 0 comments

The end of August signifies a lot of things. Preparing for back to school by purchasing an unnecessary amount of notebooks, trying out a new “fall-ish” hair cut, wrapping up your romance with the summer fling, etc. You know, the usual activities spurned by the end of summer. In my case the activity is a last minute mini-vacation, and should be yours too if you didn’t get sufficient getaway time this season. As with any event an appropriate outfit must be selected. The last minute mini-vacay outfit is highly important because it will not only help you bid farewell to the great summer you had, but will also help you put on your “I’m here to vacation” face.

On top of all that, you’ll need to look good in those vacation pictures you’ll inevitably post on Facebook, but not too good as if you’re trying too hard; like, effortlessly good. To take on this tall order, I had in mind an outfit based on Jason Wu’s Spring / Summer 2012 collection.

Mr. Jason Wu sure knows how to dress a girl. As Vogue describes it, his Spring / Summer 2012 collection had all his “pretty and precious Wu-isms” and was inspired by what London girls wear during the summer. And as we know from this year’s Olympics, London is very in right now.

We will be working with this grey and pink look that tells people you’re relaxing and looking gorgeous at the same time:

Preen S/S 2012 – Pastels and Whites

Posted by on August 15, 2012 in Spring / Summer 2012 | 1 comment

With the 2012 Summer Olympics now officially over, I’d like to pay tribute to the U.S. Olympic team and dedicate this post to one athlete who’s been dominating female conversations and the general blogosphere since the games first started. I’m talking about the great, albeit slightly dumb, Ryan Lochte. In an interview for Women’s Health, Ryan revealed his preference for women who wear white jeans. And we shall not question Ryan’s taste in women’s fashion, because let me remind you what the swimmer looks like:

(Why is there a ladder in that Vogue spread?)

Yeah. So now that we’ve got that settled, let’s move on to how you can sport the Ryan-Lochte’s-Dream-Girl look. My version of this look is inspired by Preen’s Spring / Summer 2012 collection, which displays lots of bright pastels but uses white as an anchor in each design.

My favorite design from the collection and one that will help piece together the white-jeans outfit aimed to catch Ryan’s eye is this:

Prabal Gurung S/S 2012 – Pretty in Purple

Posted by on August 1, 2012 in Spring / Summer 2012 | 0 comments

I have to admit, I didn’t know much about the designer Prabal Gurung, other than that he’s a dapper Southeast Asian man who’s always dashingly dressed and has perfect hair. After doing some research I found out that his label is relatively new, having held his first runway show in 2010, but already has an impressive following including Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicki Minaj, and the FLOTUS Michelle Obama. I also learned that his Spring / Summer 2012 collection was inspired by art from the Sensual Flower series by photographer and contemporary artist Nobuyoshi Araki.

One theme stands out to me from this collection and that’s the secondary color purple. All different shades of purple were on display in this collection: lavender, grape, orchid, indigo, plum, magenta, amethyst. I never thought the color purple could look so beautiful, and the last look from this collection showcases it superbly:

Alexander Wang S/S 2012 – A Hot Mesh

Posted by on July 10, 2012 in Spring / Summer 2012 | 1 comment

Alexander Wang has perfected the “model off duty,” “street-wear,” “grungy,” “tough girl” look. Whatever you want to call it, his signature sporty and athletic style is effortlessly chic.

It’s not surprising then that his Spring / Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection was dominated by mesh, nylon and zippers, and balanced out by more feminine, throwback-to-the-’90s white pumps. Inspired by NASCAR and motocross get-ups, this collection is pretty bad ass (as in both pretty and bad ass).

Unfortunately, I doubt I can pull off mesh hoodies and knee-length cargo shorts without looking like a gangster Hobbit. Out of the collection I find this look to be the most wearable:

The high collar, tight-fitting sheer top goes with the collection’s motocross theme, while the flowery cargo bottoms with outsize pockets seem to be Alex’s take on this season’s floral shorts trend. And those lovely white pumps consistent throughout the collection add a more feminine touch. I love this outfit, but kind of hate how I’d look completely weird walking down street in it. So, I set out to find alternatives that will tone down the edgy and up the casual.

Let’s start with the top:

This shirt gets major points for being laid back and comfy-looking, and bonus points for sporting an awesome zipper + pocket combo detailing. Because if this collection has taught us anything it’s that Alex loves all things pocket and zipper!
